ANCIENT AX

Only one person, possibly Plummet, found the ax, casting suspicion on the evidence. An extensive examination verified the ax to be ancient and could have been Norse. Because the rest of research team did not witness the find, Lee realized the ax could not be used as definitive evidence for Norse occupation.

Comment: The finding of the ax may have been one of the factors that developed a deep hatred between Plummet and Lee. Plummet appears to have spent much of his professional career "proving" Lee was wrong. Ironically Plummet may have found the evidence to achieve his goal but was so focused on Lee that he slighted the data in his own reports. Lee's three layers were probably, the Big People (most likely Danes) who built the stone walls before 535, the Norse who visited the site during the Little Ice Age, and the Inuit. See dating.
